Multicolored Dreams

Did you know that Sapphires comes in many other colors? We all think of blue when we think of Sapphires, but Sapphires are multi-colored. I recently had a chance to visit a gem shop in New York's jewelry district and they just got in a big shipment of multi colored sapphires. My friend, who is a gem stone expert, was with me and we spent 3 hours sorting through boxes of Sapphire Stones and we didn't even make a dent. The stones were poured out in little shovels full for us to sort and we would get a new shovel full after we sorted through piles after piles. After 3 hours, I had to stop because my eyes couldn't take it anymore. My eyes were blurry when I left the shop.

I was able to buy an assortment of colors: pink, red, blue and light blue, orange, lavender and purple, green and yellow. I find the red sapphires extremely beautiful because they are brighter and more translucent than Rubies. The shapes that I got were: round, ovals, and pear shapes.

So, what do I plan on making with these beautiful gemstones? Since they are all different colors, sizes and shapes, I am planning on making one of kind pieces to house these beauties. Sometimes, I have customers who want to buy just the stone and then have me design a piece around it. So, I always leave some loose gem stones around for customers who likes to customize their jewelry.

I am saving a red sapphire for my favorite aunt in Hong Kong. I asked her what color she would like and she chose red. I will hopefully be able to visit her in October. She has an infection in her eye (the nerves) that is incurable. She is slowly losing her eyesight. She has good days and bad days. Making something for her is a just a small token of my love for her.

The sapphires are beautiful. I have to stay that they are my favorite gemstone, even if I am partial to the blue ones.

And the puppy below is adorable!

I have a multi-color Sapphire tennis bracelet. (not sure how else to describe it.) I just love the stones. They are my favorite and the bracelet is stunning! One of my favorite pieces to wear.

Absolutely gorgeous! Sapphires are one of my favorite stones. I knew they came in more colors than blue, but had no idea there was this much variety. I'm looking forward to seeing what you create with these.

I love sapphires! :) I have a broochfrom my grandmother that has white saphires and it's beautiful. It's got a different sort of sparkle from diamonds.
