Poor Napoleon!

I took Napoleon for his yearly check up and shots yesterday morning. He was a real trooper and took the 3 shots (rabies, and other vaccines) without any problems. He was shaking the whole time because he is afraid to be at the Vet, but who could blame him. He was fine for most of the day, but then around 4:30pm, I noticed his eyelid area was slightly swollen. And the corner of his other eye was swollen, too. They were pink and puffy.

I called the Vet and the nurse told me to bring him back. Luckily, the Vet is about 10-15 minutes walk away from my house. I quickly got over there with him and they confirmed that he was having a mild allergic reaction to the shots. The doctor gave him a shot of Benadryl and sent us home. She said that in severe cases, a dog would be vomiting, run a fever, have trouble breathing, and have convulsions.

We got home and he was still acting fine. He was eating and playing with Caesar. I kept checking his eyes and it was getting better. But around 5:45pm, I noticed the right side of his muzzle was starting to swell and become pink. I called the Vet and they told me to bring him in again and maybe he needs a overnight stay. The Vet closes at 6pm, so DH (he had just got home) and I rushed him over there. By the time we got there, his right side was completely swollen and the left side was slightly swollen, too. But his eyes were fine.

The Doctor told me that it was best if we took him home and monitored him. There is no one there at night and if he should have trouble breathing or go into convulsions, no one would be able to help him. They gave me the address of a emergency clinic and said that if he exhibits those signs, I should bring him there right away.

The Doctor gave him another shot of Benadryl for just in case. And she said that we will have to space his vaccination shots to every 3 years instead of once a year. His allergic reactions will only get worse, so hopefully every three years will be better.

Poor little guy! He was such a trooper. 5 shots in one day! The picture above is of him napping on the couch this morning. He looks so peaceful among all the soft blankets. It's nice to see him look like himself again. Yesterday, he looked like he got smacked or was in a bar fight.

I finished making the flower for Flora, but I still have to weave in all the ends of the flower. I need to block the scarf part and then find a button.
