Super tired and super cute

I think that Melody is still recovering from the Boston trip. She has been sleeping a lot more than usual this week. And her nap times have been earlier. Twice, she has fallen asleep while playing. This was an hour before her nap. I went to prepare her bottle and came back upstairs to find her like this. I ran to get the camera and she didn't even stir when I was clicking away. Still nothing when I went to shut the blinds and curtains. I called out to her and she ignored me, so I finally picked her up and fed her and then put her down for her nap in her crib. She is 10 months old today! I really can't believe that she is 2 months away from being 1 yrs old. Didn't I just have her recently? I hate to admit it, but I am getting old. Most of the time I don't feel it, but on her difficult cranky days, I am trying to catch my breath at the end of the day. Her birthday is a few weeks before mine so there is no denying that I am indeed turning another year older. Having children will age you faster, but as I age, I am laughing and rejoicing with my little sweetie pie. She brings us a lot of joy and happiness.

We went for her 10 month check up this morning and these are her stats: 16lbs and 27 inches. Her head is a whopping 44.7cm, which puts her in the 60% on the chart. Crazy because her height was only 18% and her weight a measly 4%. I think she gets her big head from her dad. I keep worrying about her small weight gains, but the doctor thinks she is perfectly healthy and has been consistently growing. She said that she has a cute belly and chubby thighs and nice full cheeks, all signs of a healthy baby. And she said that the chart is based on Caucasian babies, so Melody would never be in the 90%. She has seen DH and she sees me all the time, so she laughs when I tell her I worry about her petite size. We are both not big people. In fact, I am under 5 feet.
She may be petite, but that baby can eat! Ever since she started solids at 5 months old, I have been making my own baby food. I bought the Fresh Baby So Easy Food Kit while I was pregnant and was so excited when I could finally use it. You can buy the trays separately, but it's nice to have the cookbook, too. It tells you what fruits and vegetables babies can eat when they reach a certain month. Plus, they give you the amounts of fruits and vegetables that will fill up the two trays. Each cube equals to a 1 oz serving, so it's easy to pull out the right amount out of the freezer to defrost or heat up.Look at the color of the carrots and peas. The jarred stuff does not have that vibrant color. And it really doesn't take a lot of time. I use a little mini food processor to puree the veggies and fruit after they are cooked, a Cuisinart Mini Prep Food Processor, and it gets the job done. After they are frozen, I pop them out of the trays and into heavy duty freezer bags. I have on occasion bought some jarred fruit when we traveled because I ran out just before we were leaving. The frozen cubes travel well, too. I put them in one of those insulated cooler bag with ice packs and they have survived many 4 hour drives to Boston.

I am blessed with a very good eater. She will try everything and anything. I can't believe how much her tummy can hold these days. Her favorites are tofu and pasta. I have a real carb lover on my hands. She pants for pasta when she sees it. Pants like a little dog!

Wow, Melody looks how I feel by the time Friday rolls around.

I think it's so great that you make her baby food. YOu're right, you're definitely not going to get those colors from anything that comes out a jar!

those photos freak me out because that's what my girl did when she was dehydrated.. slept on the floor and slept a lot. Give her lots of milk or whatever she likes to drink! I'm getting flashbacks lol...

Melody is the cutest, whether she is awake or asleep. I applaud you for making your own baby food. You're a terrific Mom! Way to go! Oh, and don't worry about her stats, as long as she is healthy.

maybe your people come from the noodle places? (northern china? I don't remember). My mom thought I was a switcheroo in the hospital b/c i didn't like noodles until ... about 10 years ago.

That does look pretty decent for baby food- certainly more appetizing than that brown mush I always see on the shelves.

that's so cute that Melody fell over sleeping while playing with her toys!

That's really great that you're able to make baby food so easily. It must be so much healthier and better for babies than the store bought stuff.

I love it when they fall asleep while they are playing or in their high chairs.....my little one isn't so little anymore, 3 year olds don't do that. My thing right now is concentrating on potty training, icky. Enjoy her ;) She's darling. It passes all too quickly.

How neat that you make your own baby food, and yes the colors are vibrant for sure! Remember one thing about her stats too, we are all as different as snowflakes. Meaning no two of us are alike, we all develope at our own rate. I wish that people would stop trying to put square pegs into round holes all the time lol ;)

Those pictures are too cute! And I do the same thing for Evie! I have the exact same ice food trays. =) It definitely doesn't take alot of time to prepare food, and you can make food that's not available in jars. I've done papaya, edamame, hummus, and a whole lot of other stuff! How silly that she pants like a puppy! haha!

Melody is such a doll. I know I write that every time I comment, but it's true! I use the same food trays. Since Satya still only has 5 1/2 teeth, I'm still pureeing a ton. It's amazing how much better the food is than the store bought stuff, plus you know exactly what's going in it, and it's cheaper! Have you joined our group, Homemade baby food on Ravelry?
