My Autumn Rainbow Moebius

Manuèle recently contacted me through Ravelry to ask me to test knit a pattern for her. Even though I am in the midst of Christmas knitting, I was intrigued with the pattern and flattered that she would ask me. Flattery always works! This was my first time knitting a moebius and knitting with Noro Yarn. I am not sure why I have never knit with Noro before, but it could be due to it's texture. Whenever I saw it in a yarn store and touched it, I was never sold on it because it wasn't soft. But I might have been converted from knitting this pattern. The color changes keeps the knitting very interesting. I found myself knitting as fast as I could to see the next stripe of color. I haven't soaked it yet, but I think that might soften up the yarn. It doesn't really bother my neck, so I might not. The only thing annoying was the amount of natural matter in the yarn that I had to pick out of it: twigs, burrs, and other stuff that would poke my fingers as I was knitting.DH asked me what I was knitting and was very excited when I told him it was a moebius. He was a math major in college, not arithmetics, he majored in Math Theory! He then proceeded to tell me what a moebius was and how it has only one side. I actually found that interesting, but I was glad that he didn't delve into it further like it's properties and applications. It might have driven me into a coma. The knitting was fairly easy because all you do is increase and decrease. After a while, you don't need to look at the pattern because you can just count the garter bumps. The fascinating part is the closing of the moebius. As you are decreasing the end of it, you are also picking up a stitch from the cast on edge. I had trouble with it the first time and had to rip it out, but I finally got the hang of it. The final results makes all that trouble worth it. Look at the above picture to see the join. I think it's beautiful. I love my moebius scarf! I am smitten with it. Even though it should go into the Christmas Box, I think I might keep it. No one on my gift giving list would appreciate the colors of Noro. They all like solid or neutral colors. On really cold days, you can loop it over your head again so it is snug against your neck.

Manuèle is still working on the pattern to make sure that everything is correct. The pattern should be available to download soon on Ravelry. It's already in the pattern library. I put a link in the notes below.

Pattern: Rainbow Moebius by Manuèle Ducret
Needles: US 7 / 4.5 mm
Yarn: 2.5 balls of Noro Silk Garden Lite, color: 2011 , Lot A

Thank you to everyone who wished my DH a Happy Birthday. Surprisingly, none of our friends even remembered his birthday. He didn't receive any emails or even a phone call from his friends. He didn't mention it, but I felt bad for him. His family and my sister sent cards. We did have a delicious Japanese dinner and we both had sushi. Melody already ate before we left the house to meet him at St Marks Street, but she enjoyed some tofu and unagi(freshwater eel, cooked of course).

Happy BD Melody's Dad
I was looking forward to something baked on the blog. Oh well, maybe at the holidays you will share another recipe with us.

I am glad to know that some of you enjoy seeing my baked goods. I hate to disappoint anyone. Since it was only going to be 3 of us, I didn't want to bake a whole cake. And honestly, the more truthful reason is that I have been so tired. Melody has been having some rough nights and her schedule is really off so that makes everything more difficult. I keep getting these awful headaches since I can't get enough sleep due to her not sleeping.

But there will be baked goods for Thanksgiving! I am responsible for dessert at my friend's house, so I will be baking like crazy this week. In the mean time, here is some pictures of something I baked this summer.Mini Cheese Cakes topped with fresh Summer berries. A really simple recipe that looks impressive. I used the Philadelphia 3 Step Cheesecake recipe and poured it into cupcake liners. The cupcake lines were placed in a muffin pan and for the crust, I used vanilla wafers. I made a raspberry coulis (fancy name for raspberry sauce) for the tops after the have cooled and then topped them with assorted berries.I made two dozen to bring to a friend's birthday party. I never got to taste even one because they got devoured before I even had a chance. Everyone loved them and I got requests for more.

Wow, that beautiful! You chose a great colorway. I like all of the colors in this skein. It stinks that no one remembered his b-day. I'm sure he had a great time with the two of you, though :D

Those mini cheesecakes look yummy! I may make those for thursday.

Your moebius turned out beautifully. I was dying to offer to test knit it but I am test knitting like crazy right now and haven't the time *sigh* I will have to wait like everyone else ;)

I'm jealous. That's all there is to it. The moebius is fantastic! I love the color changes in Noro too, but yeah the twigs and stuff, not so much. And the mini cheesecakes! Mmmm Who knew it would be so easy to just put them in cupcake wrappers. And all you did for the crust was use a Nilla wafer? Too easy! Watch me screw that up.

What a beautiful scarf! Noro has it's pros and cons, but the colors are certainly hard to resist.
Hope Melody gets back on a good schedule soon!

The moebius scarf is beautiful! I love the colour way. And the mini cheese cakes look delicious! But something is missing! Oh, I know. This is all cute stuff, but the cutest thing of all is missing. Hope she soon gets her nights back on track. Take some knitting for those headaches!

It's outstanding! I have avoided noro for the same reasons, not sure I'm persuaded yet, I like my yarn soft :) Hope Melody gets back to a schedule soon, lack of sleep is just no fun.

So beautiful! I noticed this on Ravelry and loved it right away :) The colorway is gorgeous, and it looks like you did a wonderful job.

I, too, hope you (and Melody) are able to sleep more consistently soon.

Those cheesecakes look delicious!

That wrap is so cool! and it's really cool that your dh was so into it because of the math theory. Our friends used a moebius in their wedding ceremony. They took a piece of ribbon and fastened it together so that it would have only one side to stand for their love or something like that.

I have always stayed away from the noro yarn because it seems so itchy. Now I'm really jealous of all of these wonderful self striping yarn projects that people are using with it.

Gorgeous. I'm thinking I'll have to do a moebius soon, but every time I look at instructions they blow my mind. I thought it was just a twist when you join, but...ack. Yours is wonderful.
