Having Fun

The days are getting colder as Winter approaches. There are not many days left to go to the park, so I am trying to squeeze in as many visits as I can. My girl just loves to swing. I love to see her huge grins and hear her cackle with laughter. Her laughing sounds like cackling, I swear. My sister, Jo, came to visit last week so it was nice to have a pair of extra hands while getting to and from the park. (She was the unofficial "Baby Wrangler" while she was here.) It was a pretty chilly day and when we got there, it was practically deserted. My sister and I had a fun time taking photos of her and swinging her. I think my sister was delighted to see how much Melody enjoyed swinging. Her laughter and smiles were heart warming, but then again, we all adore her. So, we all may be a bit biased. :-)
We had an appointment near the Chelsea Market, so we had to stop by after we were done. My sister has never been there before. This is also the home of the Food Network and a lot of shows are filmed in the studio portion of the building. On some of these pumpkins, Martha Stewart and Emeril Lagasse's faces were carved on it.We wandered into bakeries and markets, savoring the sights and smells. Brownies were bought at Fat Witch and a delicious Peanut Butter Cup Cupcake from Eleni's was consumed all by myself. Whoops, I forgot to save some for my sister to try. This is me with Melody. It's a very rare occasion that a picture of me is taken with her since I am usually the one behind the camera. Plus, I am not too fond of having my photo taken.

On Saturday, I left everyone at home to attend a workshop called Photographing Your Knitting (And Beyond!). It was hosted by Sit 'n' Knit NYC and taught by the famous Jared Flood, aka Brooklyn Tweed!!! I couldn't miss this opportunity even though I had house guests.Jared Flood was really nice and down to earth. He spoke about camera terms in normal everyday language so that anyone could understand. Usually, I start to get confused with a glazed look on my face when I try to read my camera manual, but Jared made everything approachable. And I had a Aha! moment when I realized I have been misusing my ISO function on my camera.

Towards the end, he gave us a bunch of his Tips & Tricks. It was about using everyday household things or cheap materials instead of buying fancy equipment or props for the camera. Lots of great ideas! I am so glad I went. It was $45 well spent.

Melody just keeps getting cuter and cuter! I'm so glad you shared pics of her visit to the park. I can tell Melody really enjoyed spending time with her Auntie. Looks like she had a ton of fun!

You're so lucky to live in a city where you can take photography classes like that and take wnderful trips to the market.

BTW, you look very pretty in your picture!

Melody looks as happy as my friends child when she's on a swing =), it's so fun to watch.

The photography class sounds interesting, can you share some of his tips????

So nice to see your smiling face! I think in all the months I've been following your blog this might be the first picture of you that I've seen?

Your weekend sounds like a dream! (Or at the very least, much much better than the weekend I spent working.) I'd be really curious to hear what Jared had to say about ISO. That's something I've been fiddling with on my camera but I have no idea if I'm doing anything right? It's just trial and error for me.

I love Chelsea Market! One of my favourite places.

I agree with you -- it was $45 well spent. See you on Thursday!

Great photos! Now I see where Melody gets her good looks from! You should be photographed more often. Also loved the shots of the pumpkins. I love pumpkins!

No wonder Melody is so cute, look at her cute mom! (and aunt) What a great opportunity to take a class from Jared Flood - his photography is really amazing.

I have a question for you - when you won the Amy Butler pattern from me last summer - did I send the wrong pattern?? I was going through mine and see I still have 2 of those hat patterns! Doh!!

Melody is going to be a heartbreaker someday...she is so adorable!

How fun that you got to attend a Jared Flood workshop! He's coming to Michigan in a few weeks, but I'll be out of town for work, so I have to miss it.

Melody looks like she's having a grand old time! You three (Melody, you, and your sister) are quite photogenic, and I love the huge pumpkin/squash display at the market :)

The photography workshop sounds very interesting - such a neat idea.

P.S. You got some great stuff at Rhinebeck! I especially love the Brooks Farm Solo and Solo Silk - I'm a sucker for those yarns - but all your purchases are lovely. You will have so much fun with your spinning stash! (which is gorgeous, by the way)

Looks like you three girls had a great day. That market looks amazing - so cool you can just stop in there any time.

What a great class and to be taught by Jared Flood - too cool!

From what I can see you have no reason to be camera shy, Melody is certainly very lucky to be inheriting those looks!

The class with Jared sounds very worthwhile, I'm not good a photography, so I guess learning some skills couldn't do me any harm eh?

PS I told you I was catching up with blogs right?

The Jared Flood event looks like it was productive - I missed the opportunity! Have you knit anything with the yarn we dyed at Brooklyn Krafthaus? I'm looking to dye more yarn but am having a hard time finding kool-aid in the "tamarindo" flavor.

Your child is the cutest munchkin!
