The Last Thing I Knit

This is the last project that I worked on before I gave birth to that cutie pie in the picture. Seriously, on the morning that I woke up with contractions, I knit a few rows trying to distract myself while waiting for the doctor to call me back. No, I didn't take it with me to the hospital. I'm not that crazy!

A lot of you will remember that the baby was late in arriving for her big debut and I was suppose to be induced on a Tuesday night if she didn't come on her own over the weekend. To help ease my frustration, DH had taken me out on Saturday for some shopping and spicy Mexican food. I had seen this color yarn a few times when I went to Michaels, but never bought it because I didn't have a project in mind. The color is called Seafoam and I thought it would look good made into the Eyelet Baby Blanket by Blue Sky Alapacas. Somehow, I got it in my mind that I could try to start and finish a baby blanket before the baby arrived. I blame the hormones. I think that I was bored out of my mind waiting for the baby to come, so a challenge was needed.I started on Saturday night when I got home and knit like a crazed woman. By Sunday night, I had the body of the blanket done, but decided to add an extra eyelet row to lengthen the blanket. I figured that I would finish that extra section and get the ruffle border done the next day, Monday, and have it done in time for me to get induced on Tuesday night. Well, the contractions started the next morning. The blanket has been sitting around until I picked it up 2 months ago. It took me over 3 weeks to get the ruffle border done and then it sat for another 3 weeks before I got the motivation to seam the corners of the ruffle border and weave in all the ends. I felt like the border went on forever because each side is done separately. Well, and also having a baby around will slow you down.I love how the blanket turned out. The ruffle gives the otherwise plain blanket a feminine flair. It's very soft and cuddly, perfect for a baby. I think it's cute that Melody is fascinated with the eyelet holes in the blanket. She kept sticking her fingers in the holes when I was taking these pictures.
Pattern: Eyelet Baby Blanket by Leslie Scanlon (from Blue Sky Alpacas)
Needles: US 9 / 5.5 mm circs
Yarn: 3 skeins of Red Heart Soft Yarn in Seafoam
Size: 27" by 30"
Mods: I added an extra row of eyelets and picked up 89 stitches for the vertical rows of the ruffle border.

It looks like the color of a Tiffany's box. I think you really have a princess there.

What a lovely blanket! I cannot believe you fast you knit. Right now I can't get a project finished to save my life.

Who knew when you knit in those lovely eyelets that you'd be providing built in entertainment into your blanket? How clever?

The blanket is fabulous! It's really beautiful.

It's like that ... the finishing touch sometimes takes much longer than the main project proper! I like the soft touch and the sheen of the Soft Yarn ... actually been thinking of using this yarn for my next afghan project. Vanna's yarn line is another one I'd like to try too. I just love those yarns that could be picked up without a fuss in craft stores ... though they are high in acrylic content. It's good to be able to love acrylic ... :)
The blanket is lovely ... as is the baby!

I hope you don't get tired of hearing it but,...Melody is sooooo adorable! Is she doing her exercises by holding up her head? So sweet!

Gorgeous blanket too. The ruffle edges are a great touch.

I have seen projects of this pattern on Ravelry, and I must say that this is the nicest one! Love the color.
Hi to super-cute button.
PS: If you plan to tell your friend about Coldspring, sooner the better. I understand the stuff is flying out of the window.

That turned out soooo cute. I remember when my twin nephews were that age, they play with eachothers buttons or appliques on their brothers clothes, like they couldn't figure out that they had one of their own! So cute :)

How adorable - baby and blanket! You certainly whipped out most of the blanket in a hurry and probably would have finished if your little angel didn't show up a day early.

It's nice to see that Melody is being raised with an appreciation of mommy's knitting already:) !!

The ruffle border is so pretty. Was it knitted in one piece and then sewn on?

Beautiful blanket! I love that Red Heart Soft Yarn. It's s o soft and they have a nice color selection that isn't as florescent as Caron SS.
I've made crochet blankets with ruffled borders like that, but I've never seen a knit blanket with that type of ruffled boder. I really like how the border on the side view looks like waves!

Love the ruffle! I have never seen a ruffle on a knitted project before, it is amazing!
And I can never get enough Melody photos. I agree that the color of the blanket is reminiscent of a Tiffany's box. Which is very cool!

I love how the holes are simply perfect for sweet baby fingers :0)

That is an amazing blanket! And Baby too! You are such an accomplished knitter, you really should have a book published with all your projects. Is that pattern a freebie? I went to the yarn site, but couldn't find it.
