Discombobulated

I got nothing accomplished last week. I was too tired and had no motivation left by the end of the week. I thought I could make Melody a bunny for Easter, but I failed. I started crochetting it on Friday night after DH got home from work. But as of today, this is what I have: a head and a body.I had to make the head 5 times before I got it right. Eyelash yarn is really hard to crochet with. You can't see anything. And I couldn't rip it out because the yarn would get stuck. It was a nightmare. It was just not a good idea to crochet with eyelash yarn for the first time at the end of a crazy week.

My friend finally gave birth to her baby girl, Evie, the one I made this baby set for. We went to visit her on Saturday when they got home. She is less than a week old and was sucking on her thumb already. So precious!
Melody and Evie having a sleep over.
I don't understand how this 9 lb cutie pie can wipe me out. She is a tough cookie. We almost have our daily routine down pat, but night time can be pretty much a wild card. I have been able to keep the crying to a minimum during the day. If she crys, it's usually because she is cranky and needs to go down for a nap. Last week, she decided to be difficult by not going to bed at night. I had to swaddle her, rock her and rhythmically pat her while playing music. She would fall asleep in my arms and would wake up screaming as soon as I tried putting her down. She was like that all week.

I broke down twice last week and starting crying and babbling in front of DH at night. I was quite a sight. It's amazing how a little baby can break your sanity.

On Sunday, I met up with a friend for lunch. This was my first time away from the baby, except for my 6th week post partum doctor's appointment. And boy did I need it. It felt so good to get away and not have to take care of anyone for a few hours. I felt renewed by the time I got home to make dinner. While I was out, DH discovered that she really likes the song, "Row, Row, Row Your Boat". She would smile and laugh whenever he sang it to her. When I got home, I took this picture while he was singing.

Melody is a doll, and so is your friend's baby! Sorry the nights are still crazy.....this won't make you feel better, but they aren't really here either! It will get better and if you haven't already you'll figure out all her various cries. With the exception of going to work, I don't really get any time for myself. It is SO important, make sure you try to get some whenever you can. The breakdowns will probably get better, but I still get weepy about things--good and bad!!

It's great that you had some time away with your friend.
Very cute how the Care Bear is watching over Evie and Melody. =)

What so you mean you got nothing done? You made it through the week and you are both still happy and healthy. You have to change your pereception of "accomplished" when you have a small baby. We all have had that mommy breakdown moment. It's great that you got out for a while. It gets better, it really does.

Speaking of baby, how beautiful is your little one?

Ai-ya! That daughter of yours gets cuter EVERY time you take a picture! Love her chubby cheeks. Her darling friend Evie has an enviable head of hair, huh?

Sweet baby pics!

She is so beautiful! I feel for you so much, I really remember those days. I reached a point where I just started bringing B to bed with me when he was a baby so I could get some sleep and function, paid for it in the long run in terms of getting him to sleep on his own, but got me back on my feet. Hold strong, it is hard but you will get through it and as hard as it is - take care of yourself too!

Those babies look so sweet there together! That Evie has got a ton of hair, wow! That's great that you could get out for a bit - that's so helpful every now and then to get a bit of perspective. (plus my husband always appreciated me more when he was left alone with the kids for a few hours!) Sleep deprivation can make you a little crazy too, I think any mom can relate to that one. When I read your blog, I think oh yes - that is why I had my kids when I was in my 20's and 30's....babies are tiring!! I don't know if I could do that anymore now that I've hit 40. ; )

oh my gosh she's getting cuter!

don't worry the first 6 -8 weeks are so tough till they work out night from day! I was a mess with keira not sleeping unless she was in our arms or next to us then I'd wake up in a panic that I'd put the quilt over her head and suffocated her!!!!!! She's totally normal and it gets easier I promise!!!

How cute she is!!! It's funny how babies can become attached to one particular song. My nephews like the ABCs, go figure :) She's soo adorable, and her friend, look at that hair!!!

I think the head and the body of your bunny came out great. =)

Melody is so cute! She's working the camera! Love the slumber party photo too.

I applaud you for posting. Hang in there!

This is my father's favourite story to tell me -- when I was a toddler, I would get cranky, like all babies, and to keep me quiet, he would have to take me down to have a stroll on the street. But once back inside the apartment, I would start crying again. I always think I barely escape my parents' great desire to strangle me! LOL!
Things would get better and better. I'm sure.

Oh do I know how you feel, I'm so glad you got some time away.

Oh. I hope things get better with Melody. But her pictures are so so cute. Super cute!

And yes, eyelash yarn is a nightmare. I never use it. You are very brave!

Melody is such a doll! Hang in there...I hear all the crying and long nights are worth it in the long run. :)

And, I think eyelash yarn should be outlawed...that stuff is so difficult to use!

The babies are sooooo sweet n precious. The pictures are an instant mood brightener!
I like the bunny's head how it is now! It kinda reminds me of a mossy hedgehog or something like that.

Melody's so cute - I missed a photo of her in your last post.

That crocheted bunny looks cute, too. Hope the finishing is easier than the beginning :)

You got nothing done? I'd say you were extremely busy. All of the emotions you describe are normal. If you didn't feel that way, things would not be good. Just hang in there, the nights will get better too. But don't forget to take good care of yourself. You deserve it! And you need all of your energy to raise that adorable baby of yours! What a cutie! I love her precious smile!

Oh, hang in there!! I still feel like there are days when I could loose my sanity with my three kids lol ;) It's great to get a bit of away time to rejuvinate yourself like that. The girls looked really cute having a sleep over, btw. And you will get that bunny finished for Melody. Eyelash yarn must be like funfur to work with--you never even see a stitch!!

Even though the bunny is causing you troubles, I think it's looking very cute.
Melody and Evie are such cute little sleepers - hopefully Melody will decide to be a sound night-time sleeper in the near future : ) I'm glad you were able to get out a bit. You should be sure to do that regularly : )

Absolutely precious. The eyelash yarn too! But of course I mean the baby.

What a beautiful smile! My daughter is 16 months and I still occasionally go into slightly insane babbling mode (though thankfully not the crying one). Babies are hard, specially if you don't get much time away from them. I'm glad you did.

I like your eyelash bunny and if you don't give it a body or a head it can turn into fluffy hedgehog.

I cannot believe how much hair Evie has! She and Melody look adorable together. Sorry things are so tough for you, I'm very sure they will get better. I don't know if you've heard of the "happiest baby on the block" but many people swear by it for techniques to helping with getting baby to sleep - I can't vouch for it myself though.

They're both adorable. Melody has such a pretty smile already!

So cute! Those girls are going to be best buds :) What a pair!

Just can't get enough of Melody!

Hang in there! It gets better and better from here on out...The little things like when they smile and laugh keep you sane, don't they? Kudos also for getting out of the house -- I recommend doing that every week if you can!

BTW I LOVE that cute little whale outfit!

Hang in there! And don't feel bad for not being able to finish a project. I hate not finishing things but I don't have a crying baby to deal with and I can't finish anything these days to save my life??!!

I know it will get better! In the meantime, enjoy Melody's smiles when you get them. She's an absolute cutie pie!

Between the crafts and the babies, this post is cute to the 8th power! And don't stress over not getting much done- I've been incredibly unproductive lately, and I don't have an excuse!

So cute! such a beautiful smile. I remember those can't sleep nights with my son. I'm glad my daughter let me sleep more.

ps It's hard to notice anything but the adorable babies...but what brand of crochet hook are you using?

You're doing great Oiyi! Hang in there! Melody is soooo adorable and she's got beautiful eyes! Don't put too much pressure on yourself. You're a new mummy and it takes time to get the hang of things and also for Melody to get used to her environment too! Afterall she was in your tummy for the past ten months!!! Kampatei! ^_^

Marianne said...

Wouldn't you just melt from that smile ? :-)
Please don't pressure yourself Oiyi, you are doing a great job so far !
And if I weren't so far far away I would gladly babysit for you !
