Baby Gifts for Isabelle

Are you sick of my baby knitting yet? Well, I am sorry to say that there will be more. Don't say that I didn't warn you. This sweater and blanket is made for a friend of my family. I was hoping to knit a toy to go with this set, but she gave birth a week early so I had to send this off right away. The blanket is a feather and fan pattern with only 3 rows to memorize, so it's easy. The pattern is from the book, Knitting for Peace. It took me about a week of mad knitting to get this done. I like the fact that the blanket doesn't have a wrong or right side, so it's reversible.I had Melody try it out and she liked it. I think the bright color really attracts her attention. The pattern produces a cushy textured blanket, so it's perfect for kids. I really love how this blanket turned out and I would love to make another one for Melody, but blankets are a lot of work. For those of you that have been reading my blog while I was pregnant with Melody know that she really doesn't lack in any handmade blankets from me. But I love the idea of handmade blankets wrapped around babies.I know I shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but Knitting for Peace is a beautiful book, inside and out. The book has a cloth spine and the cover has peace symbols covering the entire book, like it's embossed. You really should take a look at this book if you enjoy charity knitting. The stories that follow each project had me in tears. There are a total of 15 projects in the book, socks, hats, afghans and more. I like how they included the requirements and addresses for each Charity Group they featured in the book. I have done some charity knitting in the past and I plan to do some more when I have a little more time. I don't think that anyone can read this book without feeling motivated to do some knitting for peace.
This is the second "5 Hour Baby Sweater" that I have knit. I think this one went even faster than the first. Again, the important thing is to knit the sleeves in the round so you don't have to spend extra time seaming the sleeves. This was a 2 day project for me.
I used a green ribbon to contrast against the magenta colored yarn. The yarn I used is called Red Heart With Wool. I can't seem to find any information on it, so I think that it's discontinued. I bought it a few years ago at the annual Manhattan Yarn Riot held by Smiley's Yarns. It's made of 20% wool and 80% acrylic and is machine washable.

Patterns: Quickie ("5-hour") Baby Sweater (Free Pattern), Project Linus Security Blanket from Knitting for Peace
Yarn: 2 1/2 skeins of Red Heart With Wool (20% wool & 80% acrylic) in color: Magenta
Needles: US 10½ / 6.5 mm (Sweater), US 9 / 5.5 mm (Blanket)
Size: Blanket is 24" wide by 32" long

The 5 hour baby sweater is beautiful. The blanket is just gorgeous. Your little girl is just so adorable. I do hope that you work out why she is crying a lot too as it can wear you down quite a bit. I got PND from my daughter crying so much all the time and was so relieved when we found out it was lactose intolerance. The Peace Knits book sounds great too, must have a peek at it sometime soon.

Adorable! That hot pink will be so cute on a little girl. Love the green ribbon too.

this is such a cute baby sweater! I am definitely going to have to try out that 5 hour baby sweater. The pink yarn is adorable.

I checked that Knitting for Peace book out at the library and absolutely loved it. I think I might need to buy a copy for myself...that feather and fan pattern is really pretty!

Oh, my gosh. I must be the most selfish knitter out there. I've tried but can't finish a baby knit b/c it's not for me! Maybe I should commission you to knit baby gifts for me??

Such beautiful baby gifts! (and no, I don't ever get tired of looking at sweet little baby items)
Glad Melody gave the blanket her seal of approval. I really like that blanket pattern and the book sounds neat - I'll have to check it out sometime.

I will never tire of your gorgeous baby knitting! The blanket and sweater are gorgeous. Bright colours are good for babies! They are attracted to them! I will have to check that book out. I want to do a lot of charity knitting, so it would be great to have.

Hi Oiyi, Thanks for visiting my blog and giving me this opportunity to see your beautiful daughter and your awesome knitting talent. My daughter cried for the first few months too. I would usually just sit in the rocker and cry along with her. Don't worry, she'll outgrow it!

Your photography is gorgeous!
Also, your knitting is just wonderful. I love the color schemes you use. The magenta color is very cheery and I also like that the blanket is reversible.
I love seeing your pictures of your beautiful baby, too!

Again another cute set! And yes, babies are definitely more sensitive to colourful stuff.
I am not going to have babies and I don't knit baby stuff, but I don't mind reading and looking at others' work ... :)

Wow! The set is gorgeous, as usual! I never get tired of seeing cute baby things! My DD had colic when she was small, the only thing that would get her to go to sleep sometimes was to drive her around in the car! It seems that the vibration of the car helped her tummy stop hurting! I know that these days they have those vibrating papa-san type chairs for babies, maybe that would help?

I love pink so I would approve on color alone but wow is that lovely! I can't believe how much knitting you are getting done even with the new baby! Even with my long commute I still haven't managed to crank much out.

You are absolutely amazing. I don't know how you do it -- knitting, blogging about knitting, new baby?!?!
Let's just say I'm in awe. Love the set, too. (:

I love the ribbon on these sweaters. I really like your posts about knitting baby clothes. I don't have children or know how to knit, but I still like to see cute stuff like this!
My mom used to knit fan pattern baby blankets often, so this brings back nice memories!

as to the crying melody: hang on, it's getting better when they are 3 or 4 months old. by the way: have you tried carrying her in a sling or didymos? sometimes it helps, and you have two hands at once :)

These are seriously beautiful, and that color - mmmmmmmmmm yummy! Oh, if I could only learn to knit, or to knit faster at the very least!

How could anyone get tired of baby knitting when it's all so cute? Keep it up! :)

I love your knitting, so don't stop! You obviously know what you're doing, the stitches are so soft and even. I'm learning to crochet but eventually want to learn to knit too. I even bought a knitting book the other day and then returned it because I got way too ahead of myself. I have to focus crocheting before moving onto knitting! Sillyness. Hope you have a wonderful day!
