Coney Hat

I needed a break from knitting the purple and white cardigan, so I cast on for a hat. I need one more sleeve and then I am done. Click here for a progress picture. Usually, baby/child hats are a quick knit and it gives me instant gratification, but this one took a bit longer. It's a very long hat. This hat is great for using up leftover yarn from other projects. 3 of the yarns I used were leftover from other baby/child hat projects. The Debbie Bliss Merino Aran was leftover from the first baby hat I knit and it dates back to 2004.
Caesar was rewarded with treats for being my model. Dog owners will know that dogs don't like having things put on their heads. There were some initial hat flinging, but he eventually got bored and just succumbed to it. Good boy!It cracks me up to see Caesar wearing the hat. Look at his face! I can't wait to see the hat worn by a real baby. Please note that I did deviate from the pattern slightly. I omitted Stripe 20 and Stripe 21 because I felt that the hat was long enough.

Pattern: Coney Hat Pattern (PDF file link) by Vyvyan Neel
Needles: US 4/3.5mm DPN's
Yarn: Leftovers from other projects: Bernat Cashmere Natural Blends (Snow), Debbie Bliss Merino Aran (Pink), Mission Falls 1824 Wool (Mallow), Caron Simple Soft (Soft Pink and Plum Wine)
Mods: I omitted Stripe 20 and Stripe 21. I knit to Stripe 19 and then jumped to Stripe 22 and continued with the pattern to the end.

thats a pretty amazing hat! I only know how to knit one way (with a scarf that never got finished.) Its pretty amazing what you can make.

And the cutest model, of course!

chickengirl- The hat can be knitted flat and then sewn up. The pattern has instructions on how to do that. I find it easier to knit in the round.

Awww, he's adorable! My dog Shadow (a chihuahua) just loves to dress up--you should see his tail wag when I take out an outfit--but forget about hats or boots!
