Surplice Baby Jacket

Here it is! The first baby sweater for my baby. My list of baby knits is long and I am trying very hard to be focused with the baby knitting. I keep adding more patterns to my Ravelry queue daily. Yikes!

This is the first Elizabeth Zimmermann pattern that I have ever knit. It's definitely a very clever pattern, with virtually no seaming except for the shoulder grafting. The only complaint I have is the vague directions. Being a very detailed oriented person, I found the instructions lacking, but I kept going and hoped for the best.
It didn't take long to knit and the final result is a very cute baby sweater. I am definitely very pleased with the outcome. I can't wait for my baby to model it. I still have a lot of yarn leftover, so I will probably make matching booties or a hat.
I like how the neckline is neat and clean. I didn't need to add a I-Cord to it.
I lengthened the sleeves by 2 inches. It can be folded up as a cuff or let down as the baby grows.
Pattern: EZ's Surplice Baby Jacket from Vogue Knitting Spring/Summer 2007
Yarn: Lion Brand Baby Soft in color Spring Green #176 (Used 1 skein, but there is a lot yarn leftover.)
Needles: US6/4.0mm
Mods: I lengthened the sleeves by 2 inches using a K1, P1 Ribbing (14 rows).

Adorable! I think most of her patterns are more a method than a pattern really or so I've heard.

Oh my goodness this is pretty. I seriously always say that I want to take a knitting class...maybe this winter. You're inspiring me here, big time.

wow! nice job on the sweater. I think it was very smart of you to add extra to the sleeves so they can be cuffed and then uncuffed as the baby grows.

good luck with the rest of your knit list!
